What is Prophecy?
PROPHECY IS SPEAKING LIFE, LOVE AND ENCOURAGEMENT TO ANOTHER PERSON BY LISTENING TO THE VOICE OF THE FATHER.
Prophecy is meant to build a person up- it is never meant to harm you.

You might not know God as a loving Father but this is one of the best ways to describe Him.
God’s voice is loving, encouraging and tender.
His purpose is never to shame or condemn you but to demonstrate love and in some sense, introduce you to the wonderful person He made you to be.
Fear is not of God. In fact, the Scriptures says God’s perfect love casts out fear. (1 John 4:18)
You don't need to be afraid of prophecy or fear you will be ashamed of what God says about you- this is not how God speaks or sees you.

Another way to explain prophecy is that you are being shown the gifts and special things God put inside of you. Prophecy is looking at the unique heart God gave you to reveal your identity and destiny.

One of the spiritual gifts released to humankind after Jesus' death was the gift of prophecy. It is God’s Spirit, the Holy Spirit who reveals these things:
And in the last days it shall be, God declares,
that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams;
even on my male servants and female servants
in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.
(Acts 2:17-18)
The Holy Spirit, God's Spirit, knows everything, including what's ahead.
He shows us our true identity in God's family as royalty, nothing less.
He is loving and kind and He brings freedom- the Holy Spirit knows who you were created to be.

Prophecy can bring life, hope, power and wisdom to you on your journey.

Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast to what is good. (1 Thessalonians 5:19–21)

Prophecy is also wonderful because it usually requires another person to speak to you about your life. In some sense, prophetic words can be like the hands, feet and voice of God through another person to you in that moment. You were not made for isolation or for journeying alone but so that you could experience/taste His Kingdom through brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ.

Taste and see that the Lord is Good. (Psalm 34:8)

Jesus does His work through His body- the Church, which is wide, vast and varied. Jesus died for all people and this death included everyone on the cross. God has something to say to all His children, which I believe includes you, whether you know Him or not.
People who prophesy are usually learning to hear God’s voice and growing in this gifting- some things may be very accurate, other things may not. This could be because the person prophesying did not see, hear or interpret everything correctly or simply just got it wrong.
Prophets often hear and see God through words and/or pictures. Often these are interpreted but this is according to what God is revealing and showing. Ultimately, if a person giving a prophecy has a good understanding of God’s love, everything should be spoken through a lens of love, encouragement and hope.
Keep your words with an open hand. Take what’s for you and release the rest. God will stand by the words that are true for you and bring them to pass in His time.

My First Prophecy
I used to wonder what the purpose of prophecy was if God can speak directly to people?
Only after receiving my first prophetic word did I realize its importance and value. Having special & secret things being revealed about my heart and destiny by someone else was priceless and life changing!
I also found it emotional that many of the things that I thought God had spoken to me over several years within my heart were confirmed by someone else, often times a person I had just met!
This encouraged me to believe that I had been hearing God correctly over years. The prophecy also addressed some lies that I had secretly believed, for example, something negative about me that I thought might be true but the prophecy discounted and replaced with a wonderful truth.
The prophetic word built me up, encouraged me and gave me greater confidence and faith that God had been there all along, especially during the hard times. It revealed things about me that I had not quite acknowledged in my conscious mind or ever spoke about. It was like some of these words were awakening my heart to dreams and possibilities that I wasn’t sure I could hope for before.
Most of my prophecy rang true, like it was always me but I didn’t know it until that moment. I am still seeing many of the prophecies that I got from other people, come to pass.
I often listen to my prophetic words and it’s amazing how different parts stand out at different times depending on where I’m at in my life journey.
Prophecy can be viewed as a sign post for your life and an encouraging and supernatural tool that can help to give you some direction and to see the awesomeness that has always been inside you or perhaps you can view it as the unique flame within you! There is a lot more to say but I’ll leave you with this.
Prophecy is intended to be a blessing for your earthly existence. And finally, you are loved! This was one line of prophecy that was repeated to me in my first prophecy
and it’s true for us both today!
